How to Find Taxis in Tokyo Without an App
A local explains that taxi apps aren't necessary in Tokyo.
βHow do I find a taxi in Tokyo?β
You donβt need an app β taxis are everywhere in Tokyo. Hereβs the fastest way to get one:
3 Ways to Get a Taxi
1. Hail on the Street (Fastest)
Walk to any main road and raise your hand. Look for the light on the dashboard:
- Red light (η©Ίθ») = Available β hail it!
- Green light (θ³θ΅°) = Occupied
- The door opens automatically β donβt pull it!
2. Taxi Stands
- Every major train station has a taxi stand at the main exit
- Hotels β the doorman can flag one for you
- Department stores β usually have a stand at the entrance
3. Apps (Best for Rural Areas)
- GO β Japanβs #1 taxi app, English available
- JapanTaxi β also widely used
In central Tokyo, just hail one on the street. Itβs faster than waiting for an app.
