Supermarkets in touristy areas:

• LIFE in Asakusa – Popular supermarket, good selection
• OK Store in Ginza – Locals love this discount supermarket

Both are regular Japanese supermarkets where you can buy fresh food at local prices.

Seasonal Availability

“When is yuzu in season?”

Winter is the best time (November - January)

During winter, yuzu is much easier to find because Japanese people use it for yuzu bath (yuzu-yu). This is a tradition where you put whole yuzu fruits in your bath – it smells amazing and is said to ward off colds.

Outside of winter, fresh yuzu is harder to find.

Alternatives

“What if I can’t find fresh yuzu?”

If fresh yuzu isn’t available:

• Yuzu juice – Bottled, available year-round
• Yuzu kosho – Yuzu pepper paste, great souvenir
• Yuzu products – Snacks, drinks, skincare

These are available at most supermarkets and souvenir shops.

Most locals:

• Buy yuzu in winter for yuzu bath
• Use yuzu juice for cooking year-round
• Don’t eat fresh yuzu as a fruit (it’s too sour!)
