  • Smoking age: Also 20
  • ID rarely checked (but can be)

Important: Age 20 is the legal adult age in Japan for alcohol.

  • Convenience stores (24 hours!)
  • Supermarkets
  • Vending machines (some, with age verification)
  • Liquor stores
  • Department stores

Very easy to find – alcohol is everywhere in Japan!

Generally yes!

  • Parks – Usually OK
  • Trains – OK except some local trains
  • Streets – Allowed in most areas
  • Cherry blossom parties – Tradition!

Exceptions:
