How to Get a Taxi in Tokyo

Taxi stands β Most train stations in Tokyo have taxi stands where you can ride without a reservation. Just line up and wait for the next available car.
On the street β You can also wave down empty taxis. Look for the red light in the front window (means itβs available).
No apps needed β As of 2024, taxi apps arenβt very popular in Japan. The traditional way works great!
Finding Taxi Stands

Look for:
- Station exits (usually clearly marked)
- Hotel entrances
- Department stores
- Major intersections
At Shinjuku Station, there are taxi stands at multiple exits.

USB charging β Many taxis have USB-A ports to charge your phone. Bring your cable!
Doors open automatically β Donβt touch the door. The driver opens and closes it.
