β€œLooking for suggestions on what to do in Tokyo on rainy days.”

My first piece of advice: just get an umbrella and go out! Rainy days in Tokyo aren’t usually cold (especially spring/summer), and many great spots are actually less crowded in the rain. But if you want to stay dry, here are my recommendations:

Indoor Activities

Museums & Art

  • teamLab Borderless/Planets β€” immersive digital art. Actually better on rainy days (shorter queues!)
  • Mori Art Museum (Roppongi Hills) β€” contemporary art with city views from the 53rd floor
  • National Museum (Ueno) β€” Japan’s oldest and largest museum. You could spend a full day here
  • Ghibli Museum (Mitaka) β€” requires advance tickets but absolutely magical

Shopping & Food

  • Depachika (department store basements) β€” underground food halls are a rainy day paradise. Try Isetan Shinjuku or Takashimaya Nihonbashi
  • Nakano Broadway β€” vintage toys, anime goods, and retro shops across 4 floors
  • Kappabashi Street β€” kitchen supplies and the famous plastic food samples
  • Akihabara β€” electronics, anime, and arcades. Most are indoors

Unique Experiences

  • Onsen / Sento β€” nothing beats a hot bath on a rainy day. Try Thermae-yu near Shinjuku Station or Oedo Onsen in Odaiba
  • Robot Restaurant (Shinjuku) β€” wild and entertaining show, fully indoors
  • Karaoke β€” rent a private room for Β₯500-1,000/hour per person. Try Round 1 or Big Echo
  • Game centers β€” crane games, rhythm games, and purikura photo booths

Spots That Are Actually Beautiful in Rain

  • Meiji Shrine β€” the forest path looks mystical with rain mist
  • Senso-ji at night β€” reflections on wet stone are gorgeous for photos
  • Yanaka Ginza β€” old Tokyo neighborhood with covered shopping street

Practical Tips

  • Buy a clear vinyl umbrella at any convenience store β€” Β₯500-700. Everyone uses them
  • Coin lockers at stations let you store wet bags while you explore
  • Waterproof shoes or shoe covers are available at Don Quijote and 100 yen shops
  • Tokyo Metro connects most major areas underground β€” you can stay mostly dry between spots
